08/11-08 German album reviews
A big thank you to all the people who came to our shows in Germany. It was really fun playing for you, and we hope we can do it again some time soon!
Meanwhile, here are some quotes from German press about our album:
"Mikkel Petterson and Alice Carreri have done their homework. With deep bows to the 60s and 70s they have produced an album unequalled in a long time. (...)
You can listen to this half an hour of music over and over again and still find new aspects. (...)
We had to wait a long time for this - but it was well worth the waiting.
So far my favourite pop album this year!"
(Frank Becker,
OMM - Online Music Magazin)
"..and the (grand-)parents will probably like it too."
(Soundmag.de -das indiemusic fanzine)
"an enchanting debut"
(Westzeit)
"With her velvety voice Frau Carreri interprets the diverse and finely crafted arrangements of Herrn Petterson in a wonderful and special way, reminding one of old Hollywood films or Broadway musicals.
With an in-built groove factor, a touch of Doris-Day-feeling and lots of easy listening.."
(InMusic)
"The Danish duo with the complicated name makes quite uncomplicated pop in the style of the old masters (Brian Wilson, Bacharach, Brill Building). Spellbinding."
(TV Spielfilm)
"Music from Denmark often has a sense of melody and ease lacking in other countries'.
This CD proves it."
(Oldie-Markt)
"Witty and delightful"
(Fuldaer Zeitung)
"With this album it pays off to listen to it several times and get absorbed in it.
It is what is it!"
(Jazzdimensions)
"..presents an unusual and still spell-binding musical mix. (..)
Instead of authenticity Alice and Petterson deliver good entertainment and an unusual album worth listening to."
(DPA)
"They don't just scatter the lightness of The Cardigans and the songwriting quality of Bacharach, they even have enough sixties-spirit to match the instrumental opulence of "Pet Sounds".
There is so much pop appeal and "schwung" in this songbook that it would be unfair to single out particular songs.
(..) One of the best pop albums this year so far."
(Mbeat)
"With its heartfelt interpretations this album reminds one of Broadway musicals and American jazz-pop songs of the 50s. The caring and first-class productions of composer Mikkel Petterson gives the album a wonderfully analog and natural sound."
(Wilwechsel)
"Rarely does a collaboration between two musicians turn out to be so fruitful. (..)
With its great care for detail, brillant production, refreshing and varied arrangements and the wonderful voice of Alice Carreri, the record is to be counted among the most unusual Scandinavian releases of the year, already compared by many to The Cardigans."
(Diabolo)
"Mikkel Petterson has found a wonderful singer in Alice Carreri. With her incredibly versatile voice she takes you on a journey - where to is always uncertain. You only know that when it's over, you have to push the play button again."
(Rote Raupe)
"Accompanied by 25 guest musicians, treating instruments such as harpsichord, strings and timpani, they have made a piece of music that is rooted in the past, but still timeless. It has an incredible charm to it and is so different from other comtemporary releases.(..) All seems possible and nothing is over-done.(..)
Indiepop meets cabaret and jazz - something really special."
(Acoustic Shock)
The album "Alice Sings the Petterson Songbook" is now out on Sonet Records.
Indie pop meets cabaret and jazz on one of the most remarkable Danish debut albums of a very long time.
The talented songwriter/composer Mikkel Petterson combines 30s Broadway, 60s
L.A. and pop music of the 70s to set up a vigorous cocktail party with
singer Alice Carreri as the carismatic center of attention.
